The Workshop at WP

Over the last several decades, rock and roll has influenced a plethora of musicians all over the world. Intricate chord progressions, infectious drum beats, and smooth bass lines are key elements to creating an incredible rock song. Throughout the years, rock has evolved and broadened immensely thanks to younger generations carrying the torch and celebrating the genre in different ways. Waltzerr, a five-piece band based in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle, Washington is a great example of that.

Established in 2023, the members include vocalist Emily Waltzer, lead guitarist Schuyler Jensen, rhythm guitarist Kevin Lee, bassist Anthony Coraggio, and Derek Hell on drums. Known for their catchy songs like “Blurry Eyes”and “Parvenue,”  Waltzerr combines a mix of guitar and drums to give that edgy, modern Indie rock sound.

Though on stage the five musicians flow together quite well, they all actually come from very different backgrounds. Founding members Emily and Kevin met online and recruited the other three through a Craigslist ad. The band pulls inspiration from different directions, given the members’ diverse music backgrounds. With personal music tastes ranging from metal to jazz to “girly pop,” as Emily calls it. Each member provides a fresh perspective to the band’s sound. A few major influences for the band include Japanese Breakfast, Alvvays, and Future Islands.

As an up-and-coming band in the Seattle music scene, Waltzerr is dedicated to not only making a name for themselves, but also speaking up for causes they care about. When they are not playing music, the band engages in local activism. Currently, the war going on in Gaza has been heavy on the musicians’ minds. Waltzerr plans on participating in the march on March 30th for Land Day, which commemorates the Palestinian struggle against colonialism. Along with that, Waltzerr supports Planned Parenthood, sustainability, and animal rights activism.

Waltzerr has found a sense of community by working with other local Seattle artists like Balcony Bridge, Jul!et, Palettes, Swim Down, and Crow Kid and playing unique venues like Chop Suey, Funhouse, and Sunset Tavern. Their dream venues include The Gorge and Coachella, and everything in between, of course.

You can find Waltzerr on Instagram @waltzerrband or at waltzerr.com.  Their new single “Risk It All” drops March 8th, and catch them live at Conor Byrne Pub on March 23rd!
